Our team

Alpha Legal is a service from Start Software, an international software business with 15 years of successful trading.


Quality and security are at the heart of everything we do at Start Software. Start Software is ISO9001 and ISO27001 accredited and holds the Cyber Essentials certification. Director Robin (see below) is a member of the Cybersecurity CoP at The Institution of Analysts and Programmers.



Robin Bennett MA (Oxon) FIAP MIoD

Director 


Start Software was founded by Robin Bennett MA (Oxon) FIAP MIoD, the creator of the UK's first successful will writing software, Will Writer for Windows. 


Robin was a founding director of Legacy Partners Ltd, a successful national will writing and estate planning business. At Legacy Partners, he introduced new technology into the UK will writing industry including laptop-based instruction taking, automated will processing and a modern approach to dealing with clients and consultants.


Robin is a Fellow of the Institute of Analysts and Programmers.


Dan Darkin

Senior Software Developer


Dan has worked with Start Software since 2010 and is a software developer who specialises in Alpha Anywhere developments. Dan is the lead developer for asbestos software Alpha Tracker as well as our software for the legal services industry.


In addition to being the lead developer for Alpha Legal, Dan has worked with a number of national organisations working in the will-writing industry.


When not tinkering with his cars (Dan is also a successful rally driver) he is usually found working hard on software development projects from client sites or our Telford office.


Jack Byrne

Support/Software Developer


Jack is our lead support engineer for Alpha Legal as well as a talented app software developer using the Alpha Anywhere platform.


Alpha Legal is the second major system he has worked on within the legal services industry.  He also has many years of experience supporting our other software platforms including Alpha Tracker, the UK's leading asbestos software platform.


Jack enjoys socialising with friends when not at work.


Jess Humphries

Customer Services/Marketing


Jess joined Start Software in 2018 and is the main point of contact for new users of Alpha Legal.  She enjoys "meeting" new Alpha Legal users on LinkedIn and via Zoom calls.


She enjoys spending time with her young family when not at work.
